DPF, EGR, AdBlue & Fault Codes

DPF Issues

A blocked DPF, associated warning lights and a vehicle in limp home mode are an all too common occurrence in diesel vehicles today.

The DPF system is designed to capture diesel particulates when the vehicle is driving in urbun areas and discharge then through regenerating on the open road.

However, if the opportunity for regeneration does not arise frequently enough then the DPF can become blocked.

Usually the first warning light indicates that you should undertake a regeneration cycle as describled in your owners manual.

If this is not undertaken the soot & ash build up will exceed the specified threshold for regeneration, the car will go into limp mode and the only option is to have the DPF replaced or cleaned.

We are able to offer:

DPF Forced Regeneration

DPF On Vehicle cleaning ( for excess soot accumulation)

DPF Off Vehicle cleaning ( for excess ash accumulation)

DPF Replacement

EGR Issues

An EGR or Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve is responsible for the recirculation of a controlled amount of exhaust gasses back into the vehicle intake system as part of the emissions control system.

Over time the EGR valve can become blocked with soot deposits or the electronic operation of the valve can fail due to the high operating temperatures.

This will usually trigger a warning light on the dash and result in poor engine performance or the vehicle going into limp mode.

We are able to offer a number of solutions to a failed EGR valve.

Adblue & Fault Codes

AdBlue problems are becoming more common and are proving very expensive to resolve. When the reductant injection system fails you get a mileage countdown after which the engine will not start. If you have an AdBlue issue we can help. Contact us with your registration.

Engine lights either flashing or on permanently and a vehicle in limp home mode are an all too common occurrence.

There are thousands of reasons why your engine light might be lit, some of which can lead to the requirement of some costly component replacement.

Depending on the issue, one solution is for us to remove the fault code from your engine ECU so the light does not illuminate.

Where we can help is for issue with:

Inlet manifold runner issues

Inlet manifold variable tract issues

EGR issues

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS AND THE UK MOT TEST

As of February 2014, new UK MOT regulations came into force stipulating that original equipment DPF units must still be in place. It is an offence under the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations to use a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet.

Removal of a DPF will almost invariably contravene these requirements, making the vehicle illegal for road use. The potential penalties for failing to comply are fines of up to £1,000 for a car or £2,500 for a light goods vehicle.

DPF removal is legal in certain countries and when used for off-road or motorsport – if in any doubt please take advice.
